The Canada Federal Government Home Renovation Tax Credit

In early 2009, the Federal Government brought in regualtions to provide for an incentive for homeowners to complete repairs to their homes in this fiscal year and gain a tax credit for their efforts.

As is typical of government legislation, much confusion arose from this activity. However, it is now here for the benefit of homeowners.

It is our understanding that roof repairs are eligible for part of the repairs claimable for the tax credit. You will require a copy of the contract and the receipt for payment in order to claim this money on your taxes at year end.

Please find attached to this page a copy of the letter I have received from the feds that describes the repairs and renovations that are eligible and those that are not.

For further information on the tax credit, you may go to either the CRA website or The Federal Government Finance MInistry website.
